Personal data we collect

We collect personal data directly from you when you apply for a role with us through our online application process, such as your name, address, contact information, work and educational history, achievements, identity documents, test results, and other categories of data you voluntarily share with us. We may also collect data about you from third parties, such as professional recruiting firms, references, prior employers, and publicly available information on professional social media websites.

Sensitive personal data includes ethnicity, health, trade union membership, philosophical beliefs, sexual orientation, and other categories as prescribed by law. We may collect sensitive personal data to support our efforts to create an inclusive and diverse work environment and to address our public health and workplace safety obligations.

Use of your personal data

We collect and use your personal data for legitimate human resources and business management reasons, including:

  • Identifying and evaluating candidates for potential employment, as well as for future roles that may become available.

  • Maintaining records in relation to recruiting and hiring.

Background screening

If you receive an offer from us, we may conduct a background check on you or instruct a third party to do so on our behalf, where permitted by law and necessary for the role. A background check will only involve criminal background data to the extent permitted by law.

 

Data recipients

Your personal data may be accessed by recruiters and interviewers working in the locations where the positions for which you are applying are based, as well as by recruiters and interviewers working in different locations within Burge Talent Partners. Individuals performing administrative functions and IT personnel within Burge Talent Partners may also have access on a need-to-know basis to your personal data.

We use third-party service providers to provide a recruiting software system and other services to assist in identifying and recruiting talent, administering pre-employment screening and testing, and improving our recruiting practices. We do not disclose your personal data to third parties for non-Burge Talent Partners purposes and do not sell your personal data to third parties.

 

Automated sorting of applications 

We may use data analytics and algorithms to help review large quantities of candidates and application data. These algorithms help prioritize the application review process and sort candidates based on professional characteristics that suggest strengths and capabilities necessary to perform the relevant role. The automated results are combined with human judgment for final assessment.

 

Data retention

If you accept an offer of employment with us, any relevant personal data collected during your pre-employment period will become part of your personnel records. If we do not employ you, we may retain your data for a period to consider you for future roles, unless you object. We retain minimal data to record your recruiting activity with us.
